Grace Children to Showcase their Musical Gifts!

Image result for children singing in church
Our very talented and busy Children’s Ministry Team is planning to “showcase” the musical gifts of our children on December 4th at 6pm in the sanctuary.  The children will delight us by ringing “Angels We Have Heard on High” with their bells, followed by singing “Away in a Manger,” and then concluding with a liturgical dance to “O Come All Ye Faithful”!  Please come and support our wonderful Grace kids as they help focus our attention on Christmas worship.  This evening promises to honor the most cherished gift ever given through the musical gifts of children.  We hope you can join us!  You will certainly be blessed!  We want to sincerely thank Sally Summers and April Glenn for teaching our children how to lead Christmas worship!

We are definitely looking forward to the UMW’s delicious Christmas cookies and hot chocolate served on December 4th as refreshments in the Fellowship Hall after our children “showcase” their musical gifts in the sanctuary.  We are asking that the cookies be brought to the church kitchen by 12pm on that day.  Thank you UMWs for using your gifts to help celebrate the Christmas Season with our church family!  You do so much for everyone!

Singing Around the Christmas Tree

Image result for church singing around the Christmas tree

It’s nearly time for one of the highlights of the Christmas season!  On Sunday, December 4th at 5:30pm, Grace’s own Fran and Bob Love and “friends” will lead us in singing Christmas carols around the Christmas tree.  As we open this season with love, joy, peace on earth, and goodwill from God toward men, let us take this time to lift our hearts heavenward with songs of praise and gratitude. Thanks, Fran and Bob, and “friends” for pointing us toward Him by continuing to share your wonderful gifts!  (If you would like to sit during this special celebration, please remember to bring a lawn chair.)

Union Music Club Scholarship Benefit Concert

The Union Music Club will present Dr. Ryan Smith, pianist, in concert Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at 7:30pm in the USC-U Auditorium.  Tickets for this concert are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children 12 years old and younger.  Tickets may be purchased from any Union Music Club member, the Union County Arts Council office, or at the door the evening of the concert beginning at 7:00pm.  A reception will follow in the Main Lobby.  All proceeds will benefit the Union Music Club Scholarship Fund.  USC Union is a proud host of this event.

The program features piano music inspired by Shakespeare.  This marks the 400th anniversary of his death, and the program explores the international appeal that Shakespeare has retained over the past four hundred years.  Music will include selections by French, German, and Russian music that are representative of the sonnets and plays such as Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.  The program will be rounded out with American and Spanish works.

Dr. Smith, a Union native, is Assistant Professor of Music and Coordinator of Keyboard Studies at Coker College where he has taught on the faculty since 2013.  He is also the interim music director at Darlington Presbyterian Church.  He earned degrees from Furman University, Dallas Theological Seminary, and the University of South Carolina.  Smith and his wife Abigail live in Hartsville with their four children

The Netivity Set Dec 6th YOU'LL NEVER LOOK AT A NATIVITY SET THE SAME AGAIN!

Image result for nativity set narroway productions   Every year at Christmas, the old life-size nativity set is assembled at the front of the church.  It's a tradition most would like to forego.  Fifty years ago, when Mrs. Howerton donated the nativity set, she had hoped it might, "Breathe new life into the church and bring to focus the real meaning of Christmas.”  This year, it will. You'll never look at the nativity set the same again!  

Don’t forget to pickup tickets for all your Grace family and friends to “The Nativity Set” Christmas play!

 During November we will offer tickets to UCCOM members and then the community, but they will still be available for our members for as long as they last!

 At this event our children will delight us again by ringing “Angels We Have Heard on High” with their bells, followed by singing “Away in a Manger”.

 During the love offering, they will conclude with a liturgical dance to “O Come All Ye Faithful”!
 Our Confirmand Class will exemplify Christian service by greeting and ushering for us.

Thanks to all our Grace children for helping to make this Christmas celebration extra special!

White Christmas 2016

Image result for white christmas food baskets   Each year Grace UMC takes the amazing opportunity to prepare 30 food boxes to help families in need with a wonderful Christmas meal they would not otherwise be able to enjoy.  As we sit around our Christmas tables full of God’s gracious bounty, let us not forget those less fortunate than ourselves.   If you would like to submit names of needy families as recipients for White Christmas food boxes, please contact the church office by November 18th.  In addition, very soon boxes will be placed around the church for collection of non-perishable food items from our members.  You may also contribute by making a check payable to Grace United Methodist Church with “White Christmas Food Box Fund” placed in the “For” line.  A little closer to the delivery time, we will purchase, bread, fruit, and hams with these monies.   We pray that our gift truly offers a bit of “White Christmas” to our fellow brethren! Thanks in advance for your participation in this meaningful ministry.
