Thank You, Judy Caston UMW President

On Sunday, February 16, 2020, Mrs. Judy Caston, President, welcomed everyone who came to the UMW General Meeting. She ex-pressed her appreciation for all that the UMW has been involved in and her hopes that it will continue during her service. Mary Lou Gregory installed all the new officers for 2020. They are: Judy Caston (President), Sue Keith (Vice-President), Margie Ruff (Secretary; Nominations; Local Church Responsibilities), Fran Love (Treasurer), Mary Jane Cunningham (Program Resources; Nominations; Local Church Responsibil-ities), Sherry Bauknight (Mission Coordinator/Spiritual Growth), Jeanette Galloway (Special Membership Recognition), Frances Adams (Education and Interpretation/Social Action; Membership Nurture and Outreach), and Mary Lou Gregory (Special Membership Recognition). The Circle Leaders installed for 2020 are: Mrs. Jane Moore, Circle of Hope; Mrs. Brenda Childers, Johnnie Sanders Circle; and Mrs. Melodi Gault, Lucy Lee Shuler Circle. Rev. David Bauknight then gave the blessing for the wonderful meal catered by Kirby’s consisting of roast beef, potatoes and gravy, broccoli casserole, pickled carrots, rolls, tea, coffee, and cheesecake for dessert. Sherry Bauknight presented a beautiful LOVE devotion, then let us know all about the meaning of love as Pastor David assisted with a video display. Kathy Stepp and Jack Kelly were then introduced by Sue Keith. Kathy’s program, “LOVE TRIBUTE” included her singing a well-known hymn referring to love as Jack ac-companied her on the piano. She went on to add further information about what love means, incorporating humour and a game into her presentation. Before the meeting ended, Fran Love explained the reason behind the UMW’s “Call to Prayer and Self-Denial” offering. Once the offering was collected, Pastor David gave the benediction. The meeting was well received, enjoyed, and applauded by all.
Special recognition goes to everyone who helped before, during, or after the meeting. Without the generous offerings to help, this would not have been possible. Thank You!

On February 16, 2020, there will be a UMW General Meeting directly after the church service. All UMW members are encouraged to attend and spouses or significant others are invited to attend, also. The meal will be catered. There will be a guest speaker, as well as an offering taken for “A Call To Prayer and Self-Denial”. There will be sign-up sheets at the Welcome Center, both Sanctuary entrances, and in the church office if you plan to attend. In order to know the amount of food to order, please sign-up by February 10, 2020.

Our UMW program has been active for over 150 years, starting in 1879, and was recently designated as the oldest active UMW in the district. The Grace UMW biography was sent to the Spartanburg District Office to be submitted for The Oldest Unit In Our District last year. After being evaluated, these biographies were presented at the Annual Meeting in Greenville last October, 2019, and “Who knew”? We are the unit they celebrate! Congratulations to all our past, present, and future UMW members for making this possible! What an honor!
