Why Media Ministry?

Matthew 28 : 19-20

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

What is the point in Media Ministry?

In the modern age, technology, the internet, and social media are all around us and have become unavoidable. These technological strides simultaneously highlight the best and the worst of humanity; however, they also present us with the opportunity to expand our ministries, touch more lives, and grow our church family.

A 2014 study, done by the Barna Group, revealed that 43% of people state that they have never been to church.

Media Ministry gives us the opportunity to reach unchurched people in a way that traditional evangelisim does not. Did you know that most millinieals will research a church before deciding to visit said church? Most millenials decide whether or not they would want to join a church before they even step through the front door.

A website is the first impression that most people receive about our congregation. Lets make a good first impression.

Our website can be an amazing tool that is used to communicate with our congregation, pass on important information, and even be a sort of online directory. In additon, it can also be an amazing tool used to minister to people and to invite more people into our loving congregation. A church website is a must for any church which wants to grow and survive in the ever changing society. We are not changing the message which we teach, we are simply using a different medium to teach the message.

Lets talk about social media...

Did you know that Grace UMC has a Facebook page? Facebook can be an amazing resource to our ministries. It can be used to advertise about different happenings in the church such as VBS, Youth outings, or even about our wonderful cantatas for which our choir works so arduously. However, Facebook only works if our congregation tags the church's page in all of their posts from church. We want to show everyone in our community how active we are, how loving we are, and how welcoming we are.

In conclusion,

Media ministry is the next step in spreading the Word of God. This is only the next step in the evolution of ministry. In the early stages of the church, all of the teachings were done by word of mouth. Then came the organization of the church where priests studied the written Word and taught it to their congregations. Next, came Gutenberg's printing press which made Bibles accessible to everyone. Then came Radio and TV Evangelists. Today, we have the internet, an amazing resource which can help us reach hundreds if not thousands of people in our community. Let's use it to spread the Gospel as God commands in the Great Commission.
